Scaling Early Oral Cancer Detection
OrisDX created the Oro Lesion kit — a non-invasive oral rinse that allows patients to be screened for oral cancer through their dentist or telehealth provider. Samples are sent to a genomic sequencing lab for diagnosis, and results flow back through a connected platform linking dentists, telehealth organizations, labs, and insurance systems.
The science was ready. The software infrastructure wasn't. That's where Yahara came in.
The Challenge
OrisDX needed three things — simultaneously:
A unified operational platform to connect every stakeholder in the workflow: dentists, telehealth providers, laboratories, insurance systems, and internal science teams.
An owned bioinformatics pipeline to replace two proprietary pipelines they'd relied on during development but didn't have rights to.
Secure, compliant, scalable infrastructure for handling sensitive genetic sequencing data without breaking the budget.
The Results
93% sensitivity & 99% specificity
Fully automated pipeline for the Oro Lesion test.
~50% patient follow-through rate
More accessible testing drives real-world adoption.
Up to $23,000 in savings per patient
Early detection reduces downstream treatment costs dramatically.
150M+ patients reached
Through a partnership with a major teledentistry provider, the Oro Lesion test is now accessible nationwide.
What We Built
End-to-End Platform Development A full software backbone unifying every vendor and workflow into a single dashboard — covering dentist onboarding, kit distribution, insurance processing, and lab results ingestion.
Advanced Bioinformatics Pipeline Replaced two proprietary pipelines with a reproducible, open-source solution OrisDX fully owns. Integrated Illumina Dragon for high-accuracy genomic alignment across 7 target genes, with custom contamination filtering logic to eliminate false positives — a potentially patent-eligible innovation developed in collaboration with the University of Chicago.
Secure Infrastructure + Multi-Vendor Integration Architected compliant AWS infrastructure for sequencing data storage and analysis, with automated pipeline triggers and cost-efficient multi-vendor integration across labs, telehealth portals, kit distributors, and payment partners.
Future-Ready Architecture Designed flexible, extensible components for long-term scalability — including a whitelabel platform version to accelerate onboarding of future clients.
