Position Overview:
Yahara is a company that provides custom software solutions for clients in the Life Sciences, Transportation and Education domain. The Laboratory Systems Business Analyst is a key role in the identification of solutions for clients by collaborating closely with an array of cross functional business and technical teams internally and externally to develop, consult, document, release and enhance a value-add product for clients within Yahara Software’s Life Sciences domain.
The Laboratory Systems Business Analyst will serve as an intermediary between IT project teams and business partners to design novel systems, integrations between existing products or non-software solutions. This role serves as the stakeholder and user advocate to understand the client’s business and technical needs and represent their interests to work with the IT/ software development team. This role will be hands-on and require strategic reason, consulting skills and planning to ensure the intended solution’s requirements are met. Strong written and verbal skills are required as well as exceptional interpersonal skills to interview, consult, reflect, and build trust with the client. A background in a laboratory setting is required.
Essential Responsibilities:
A successful candidate should have solid understanding of functional areas within a laboratory such as bench work, specimen processing, laboratory information management (LIMS) and quality assurance. In addition, a successful candidate should have experience supporting scalable business processes and laboratory information systems for business groups in higher education (Life Sciences or related fields), strong communication skills with technical and business colleagues and leaders, knowledge of business analysis, testing and laboratory principles and the capacity to learn advanced systems, technology, and technical environments in order to apply them to optimize laboratory systems processes and improve business efficiencies.
- Analyzing complex laboratory business problems and assessing how automated systems can be leveraged to help solve them.
- Formulating and defining the stakeholders’ objectives into a recommendation of potential solutions.
- Researching the client’s industry. Understand what regulations and government oversight may apply and consider that when designing solutions.
- Conducting requirements-gathering sessions with numerous stakeholders for what the future-state solution should provide.
- Converting requirements into stories in support of development activities such as estimating, development and testing.
- Tracking requirement delivery through story creation, development, testing and sign off to ensure client receives all promised functionality.
- Consulting with Yahara’s technical team to understand which stories have architectural dependencies. Working with the technical lead to document dependencies as tasks and execute these prerequisites prior to dependent stories.
- Identifying project risks and escalating to project manager from the product development point of view.
- Consulting with the client stakeholders and folding them in Yahara’s development processes such as sprint planning, demonstrations, and product delivery.
- Working as liaison between Yahara and its clients to gather testing feedback, prioritizing bug fixes, and negotiating acceptance from the client.
Required Qualifications:
- Direct working experience and background in a laboratory setting is required.
- Bachelor’s degree in science, business or technical fields is required or master’s degree or higher education majoring in Life Sciences or related field is highly preferred.
- Experience working with CRM, Laboratory Information Management System (LIMS) or related software.
- Competence applying the Microsoft suite applications such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Outlook to complete a variety of task and project coordination and correspondence.
- Experience using project management tracking systems such as JIRA or similar CRM.
- Ability to create mockups, prototypes and diagrams using Jusinmind, Microsoft Visio, Adobe or similar applications.
- Ability to understand and communicate effectively with subject matter experts and professionals working in laboratories.
- Detail oriented with the ability to work independently, problem solve and drive to solutions.
- Demonstrated high degree of initiative and ownership; proactively works to resolve issues.
- Demonstrated ability to build trust and create lasting relationships. Must have experience working on a team.
- Demonstrated ability to escalate and work through roadblocks.
- Ability to learn new technology to converse professionally with technology experts (i.e., software developers, IT project teams).
- Interested in developing their technical skills and capacity to learn technical systems, concepts and environments quickly.
